EXPLORING MORE SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVES
A significant share of our climate footprint comes from how our products are used – from cooking to fuel consumption. We actively work to develop more sustainable alternatives to traditional gases and fuels. We are also focusing on increasing fuel efficiency in our stove systems, including by expanding the use of heat exchanger pots. Our stoves with heat exchangers, such as PrimeTech and the Lite stoves, are roughly twice as efficient.
The path towards bio-based fuel
Fully transitioning to bio-based fuel for our Primus products is an important part of our sustainability work – but it is also complex. Bio-based alternatives are still under development and availability is limited, which makes it challenging to directly replace today’s conventional gas across all products and markets.
While we work to find solutions for our entire range, we use SIP Power Gas, which is based on a book-and-claim system. This means that we contribute to the production of bio-based propane in Sweden.

A supplier produces bio-based gas – in our case, propane from renewable sources in Sweden.

When we purchase SIP Power Gas, we “book” an equivalent amount of bio-based gas, even if the specific canister you buy does not physically contain it.

In this way, we support the actual production of bio-based fuel and help reduce emissions in the energy system as a whole.
SIP Power Gas results in around 70 percent lower CO₂ emissions in production compared with conventional LPG (read more at www.kosangas.se). Our supplier has an approved sustainability decision from the Swedish Energy Agency.
LOOKING AHEAD
In 2024, SIP Power Gas accounted for around 7 percent of our total gas sales – a decrease from 21 percent the previous year. Our long-term ambition is to fully transition to bio-based gas, either directly in our canisters or via book-and-claim systems or similar solutions.
In 2025, we will introduce SIP Powerfuel – a partially bio-based fuel for our multifuel stoves. This is a concrete step towards eventually offering fully bio-based fuels across our entire range.
