For many, hiking in Sarek is the ultimate mountain adventure.

Sarek National Park — often referred to as Europe’s last wilderness — offers untouched landscapes, dramatic views, and a powerful sense of freedom. It’s not a trek for the unprepared, but with the right gear, careful planning, and a deep respect for nature, exploring Sarek is entirely possible — even for bold beginners.

Hiking in Sarek National Park is for those who want to push their limits. There are no service points, and weather can change rapidly. But don’t let that scare you off—many first-time hikers succeed with the right preparation. Learn how to estimate how long your route will take, and plan carefully where to camp in the wild. A typical trek through Sarek takes 5–10 days, depending on route, weather, and experience.

Fun Fact About Sarek:

There are no trails or huts – unlike many other Swedish national parks, Sarek has no marked paths or overnight cabins. That means you’ll truly feel like an explorer as you move through the wilderness. It’s a real “wildland for real” experience—and part of why Sarek is often called Sweden’s most demanding national park.

“Lapland’s Himalayas” – Sarek is sometimes called Lapland’s Himalayas, and for good reason! The park is home to over 200 peaks above 1,800 meters and more than 100 glaciers, making it the most alpine area in Sweden. So it’s not just mosquitoes and marshes—here you’ll also find dramatic mountain ranges that will quite literally take your breath away.
