RESPONSIBILITY WHILE WE TRANSITION

CARBON OFFSETTING

While we transform our operations and value chain to reduce emissions, we choose to invest in several carbon offset projects that at the very least help reduce emissions at a global level.

The projects we support are certified according to Gold Standard or equivalent systems, and we prioritice project types with a high likelihood of additionality – meaning they truly lead to emission reductions that would not otherwise have occurred. One example is projects that capture methane from landfills, preventing the release of a highly potent greenhouse gas.

“We do not include carbon offsetting in our emissions reporting, nor do we count it towards our own emission reduction targets.” – Staffan Till, Sustainability Manager, Primus

Our investments

Since 2015, we have offset emissions from the production, transport, and use of Primus gas and gas canisters. In 2022, we also began offsetting emissions from our liquid fuel Powerfuel. In addition, we offset all Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as emissions from business travel and employee commuting.

In 2023 and 2024, we invested in two carbon offset projects:
- Production and distribution of improved cookstoves in Nigeria
- Methane capture from manure for energy production in Guangdong, China

Our investment in these projects covers 125 percent of the emissions outlined above.

Carbon removal through biochar

For our 2024 Scope 1 emissions, we have invested in carbon removal through biochar – a portfolio of three projects in Finland, Ghana, and the USA.
